Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day a SUCCESS!

Yesterday, hundreds of our kiddos walked a little extra distance to school to honor Ruby Bridges and her courageous walk on November 14th, 1960.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day (RBWTSD) is commemorated every November 14th. This gives children the opportunity to honor Ruby’s legacy in the Civil Rights Movement. We hope that by walking to school with their community, students feel empowered to make a positive impact no matter their age.

Chávez Kids Get Glasses from Vision to Learn!
What an incredible day! On Thursday, our wonderful partners at Vision To Learn provided free glasses to more than 40 students at Chávez Elementary School! Seeing the students’ reactions as they experienced clearer vision was truly heartwarming.
We were honored to have ourschool board members in attendance, showing their support for this impactful initiative. Vision is essential for students’ learning, and we’re grateful to Lions Clubs International for supporting this effort with free initial screenings.

Superintendent Search

A blue background with the text '4J Superintendent Search' in yellow.

Eugene School District 4J is starting the search for a new, permanent superintendent. The school board has chosen a firm to conduct a national search, with the goal of having a new superintendent hired in March and starting by July 1, 2025.

Interim Superintendent Colt Gill will serve through June 30, 2025, and he is supporting the district and board in the quest for a new leader. In the next few weeks, the board and search firm Human Capital Enterprises will launch a public survey and hold focus groups to gather ideas from students, parents/guardians, staff, and the community about the important characteristics of a new superintendent. Those attributes will be part of the official job posting that will open in December.

For the latest information and links to opportunities for public feedback, visit our superintendent search page.
