Winter Holiday Two Book Checkouts

Dear Chávez Families, since students will be on Winter Holiday for two weeks, they were given the opportunity to check out TWO books instead of one.  I am hoping you and your student might find the time to dig into a good book or two together during the vacation.  It is a good way to have your students take a break from screen time and practice their reading skills.  Also please help them to get their borrowed books in their backpacks at they return to school on Jan. 7.

Thank you for ALL you do to care for your students and support their education,

Wishing you and your families some special and sweet relaxing times together,

Ms. Martha Dyer, Your Teacher Librarian

Your School Librarian, Ms. Martha Dyer

Hello Chavez Family.  I love teaching library lessons and keeping an amazing library up and running so kids can get books they love while at school.  I hold a double Masters Degree in Library & Information Science and Education, and I've been a Teacher Librarian 15 years.  Thirteen years of those years were spent in middle school library in Santa Cruz, CA.  I grew up in very small town in Texas, and l have spent many summers traveling to Latin American countries to study Spanish.  I'm an intermediate speaker of Spanish, and gardening has been a passion since I moved to Eugene, and when there is time, I try to learn a new song on the guitar.

Benefits of Reading Poster

The Chavez Library is the center of our school. From the moment students enter the library for story time, instruction, free-reading, or exploring  STEAM-type activities, they know that they are in a special place.

Staffed with a credentialed Teacher Librarian, students have on school site access to books and rich instruction in digital citizenship, research skills, and information literacy. Students learn valuable standards-based skills to help them use and understand different kinds of information and text.

Weekly Checks Out and Book Returns

*Weekly Checkouts will follow a 20 min library lesson.

*Check with your student and classroom teacher to know what day of the week is book return and checkout day.

*Students can have one book checked out at a time.  We call it, "Give one and get one."

*Reading the book at home with family, friends and stuffies is highly encouraged.

*When not reading their book, students are encouraged to keep their library book in their backpack so it is at school when needed.

*Keeping the book in a plastic bag in the backpack protects the library books from spills and rain and more!

*If a book is damaged or lost, please make arrangements with Ms. Dyer or our office staff at (541) 790-5300.
