Chávez Elementary School

PBIS

We are a PBIS school. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support. PBIS is a proactive approach schools use to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. The focus of PBIS is prevention, not punishment.

Our school rules are:

  • BE SAFE
  • BE RESPECTFUL
  • BE RESPONSIBLE
  • BE KIND

PBIS Flyer

PBIS includes pre-teaching expectations and noticing students who follow them.

Students who follow our school rules can be rewarded with a Paw Pat. Paw Pats are our way of saying, Good job on doing the right thing! Students can turn their Paw Pats in for a chance to win a classroom or schoolwide drawing. Paw Pat Schoolwide Drawing prizes include fun activities like Movie & Popcorn With A Friend, Helping Mr. Matt, and Extra Recess, or a chance to pick from the Prize Box.

PBIS also includes higher-level interventions for students who have trouble following our schoolwide rules. For example, we can offer structured breaks, opportunities to calm down or reduce sensory input as needed, and a Check In Check Out program. These interventions are designed to give students individualized support. Interventions are implemented in communication with parents and families.
