Jog-a-Thon Packets Due
We are still collecting packets through Monday, 5/6. This date is intended to give time to collect any pledges over the weekend.
If you did not collect pledges prior, please know that flat donations are welcome as you send your envelope back in.
We are hoping for 85% participation from families, simply sending the envelope back. All donations go to enrich the experience of the kids at Chávez.
State Testing Update![](https://s3.amazonaws.com/ps-feeds-production/inline_images_1714762328374-1714762328374.png)
Our 3rd through 5th grade students will be taking the Oregon Statewide through the Oregon Statewide Assessment system starting Monday, May 6th. Although they are only one measure of academic success, state test results provide important information for students, families, teachers, schools, and districts.
These summative assessment results show the federal government and the Oregon Department of Education how well all students are performing according to state standards in Math, English Language Arts (reading and writing, or ELA), and Science.
Some helpful tips for parents in supporting our students during assessments:
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
It is recommended that children in elementary and middle school should get between 9-12 hours of sleep.
Remain positive!
Staying calm will help your child to stay calm.
Remind them to do their breathing exercises to disengage any stress they might have.
-
Utilize positive affirmations!
I feel relaxed and confident during tests.
I am a good student.
I am smart and have a good memory.
Testing does not define my skills as an individual.
Celebrate the effort your child put forth and congratulate them on doing their best.
Walk and Roll to School - Wednesday, May 8thWe’re participating in the Walk+Roll to School Challenge on Wednesday May 8th!
We want as many students as possible to use active transportation like walking, biking, scooting, skating as well as shared transportation like carpooling and the bus. Active transportation is good for their health and their ability to learn, while everything we do to reduce the number of families driving alone to school is great for safety in our parking lot and the planet. For those who must drive, we’re encouraging that they “park and stride” from a few blocks away from school.
On May 8th, all our buses will park and unload at the Faith Center and students will be able walk from there with supervision of staff and volunteers. Interested in volunteering to supervise on that morning? Please call the office at 541-790-5300
