Dear Chávez Families,
I am writing today with a full heart as we hit our stride this week with all our kiddos. Having done this work since 1997, I know that the start of the school year is tremendous lift EVERY SINGLE YEAR! I am grateful for so many things every day as I walk into this school, including:
- Talented, dedicated, caring staff
- The kindness I see kids sharing with one another
- Teamwork
- Joyful learning; in classrooms, PE, music class, the library and our small groups
- A clean, air conditioned building that is great for teaching and learning
- Our new superintendent, Dr. Mickelson, who is present, informed and collaborative
Each day, after our morning announcements, I walk the building, popping into classrooms, visiting morning meetings and connecting with kids and staff. I am thrilled with the work we do here at Chávez.
Mark your calendar for Back to School Night - September 25th from 5:30 - 6:45

FOOD BACKPACKS
At Chavez we work to support every student and their family. Our school partners with generous local volunteers to offer weekly food bags filled with nutritious and staple food items. This program is a way we can work together to make sure everyone has a little extra support going into the weekend. If this would be a benefit to your household, we warmly welcome you to sign up below. We have limited availability so if your family is selected someone will contact you directly to let you know.
The program involves a bag of groceries going home every Thursday in a re-usable grocery bag, and requires the empty bag be returned on Monday.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL
The Assistance League of Eugene supports a program of student assistance called Operation School Bell.
This program is made possible through the fundraising activities of the Assistance League of Eugene in
cooperation with local Fred Meyer stores.
This program was created to help families with the added cost that school clothes shopping creates for families as we head back to school. Shopping for school clothes at two local Fred Meyer stores has been scheduled in October and
November for eligible students whose families are experiencing financial hardship.
If you would like your child(ren) to be included in Operation School Bell this Fall, please complete this form.
This program has a limited number of spots; if you are selected you will be contacted directly with further information.
