Celebrating School Attendance! 90% or better!

Posted Date: 4/21/25 (9:20 PM)

Dear Chávez Families,

We are a week into our Spring Attendance Booster, when we celebrate school-wide attendance of 90% or better with an end-of-day DANCE PARTY! We met this goal three times last week and are aiming to grow that number this week.

Regular attendance is important for so many reasons.  Below are just a few.

Thanks for doing your part to support your child being at school, ready to learn, each day!

With gratitude,

Principal Kevin

Academic Success:
  • Keeping up with the curriculum:
Each day missed means missing instruction and practice, which can make it harder to grasp new concepts and keep up with the learning pace.

  • Improved reading and writing skills:
Consistent attendance allows students to develop essential skills in reading and writing, which are fundamental for academic success in all subjects.

  • Stronger foundation for future learning:
Regular attendance helps students build a solid foundation in basic skills, making it easier to tackle more complex material later on.

  • Increased likelihood of graduating high school:
Students who attend regularly are much more likely to graduate on time and complete their high school education.

  • Better preparation for college and career:
Strong academic performance, which is often linked to good attendance, helps students prepare for college and enter the workforce with confidence.

Social-Emotional Development:
  • Building relationships:
School provides opportunities for students to form friendships and build social connections, which are important for their emotional well-being.

  • Developing social skills:
School interactions help students learn important social skills, such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, which are valuable in various aspects of life.

  • Improving mental health:
Regular school attendance can reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, which can contribute to mental health challenges.

  • Developing a sense of belonging:
Feeling connected to a school community can foster a sense of belonging and purpose, which can boost self-esteem and motivation.

Long-Term Impact:
  • Better employment prospects:
Good attendance and academic success are often linked to better job opportunities and career prospects.

  • Increased life chances:
Educational attainment and a strong foundation in skills and knowledge can lead to better life outcomes, including increased income and social mobility.

  • Increased confidence and self-esteem:
Students who are successful in school are more likely to have confidence in their abilities and feel good about themselves.

  • Reduced risk of dropping out of high school:
Chronic absenteeism is a major risk factor for students dropping out of high school, which can have significant negative consequences.
