Dear Chávez Families,

I hope that this message finds you well.  Here we are in the last week of the year!  Some fun things are happening here at Chávez.  Please read on for some news you can use.

Food Drive
Our community food drive is under way!  We are aiming to collect 1000 pounds of food to restock the Faith Center Food Pantry, where Chávez families can access food and supplies.  If we meet our goal, I will be dying mu beard green AND riding a unicorn to school on Friday!  Please keep those donations coming in!

Kindness Blast
We are have a December Kindness and Helpfulness Booster to recognize when students are kind and helpful to one another, staff and their community.  Paw Pats are given out to recognize acts of kindness and helpfulness. When we will the bin by the cafeteria we will celebrate with an ALL SCHOOL pajama day!
Holiday Help
Our school recently received a donation of toys that could be great as small holiday gifts. These toys are appropriate for elementary age children and could be used as stocking stuffers.
If you are interested in receiving a small bundle of toys to help fill please complete this form.  Items will be in stapled brown paper bags.  If there is something in the bag that isn't a good fit for your child please pass it on. Bags will be ready for pick up after 2:00 on Monday, 12/16/24.  Or we can send home with your child.

Keeping Students and Staff Healthy
As the weather gets colder and more time is spent indoors, the district typically sees an increase in respiratory illnesses among students and employees.
A line drawing of a person sneezing into a tissue. These illnesses can include common viruses such as the common colds and influenza, and the more serious pertussis (whooping cough) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Please follow these guidelines to help ensure a healthy school environment and help reduce the spread of illness among students and staff:
If your child is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing, they should stay home from school until they are symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
Encourage good hygiene practices
Remind your child to:
  • Wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
  • Avoid touching their face, especially their eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Consider vaccination
  • Ensure your child is up to date on their immunizations. Contact your health care provider or school to review vaccine records if needed.
  • Stay informed
The district will continue monitoring illness trends in our schools. If specific health concerns arise, we will provide updates to keep you informed.
4J schools are taking additional steps to minimize the spread of illlness by:
  • Increasing cleaning of high-touch surfaces.
  • Ensuring proper ventilation in classrooms and shared spaces.
  • Monitoring students for signs of illness during the school day.
Thank you for partnering with us to maintain a healthy school community. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your school nurse or, alternatively, the district office at healthservice@4j.lane.edu.
